– WWE Chairman/CEO Vince McMahon will be taking full control over WWE Studios after ending distribution relationships with Lionsgate & 20th Century Fox. The move will allow WWE to “fully own and exploit” theatrical and straight to DVD releases.
WWE is partnering with Samuel Goldwyn Films on theatrical releases and Vivendi Entertainment for DVD releases, but Mcmahon says WWE has “learned a great deal” about the business to run a fully controlled movie studio operation.
The specific plan is to film nine movies by 2012 with back to back production schedules in New Orleans to save on production costs while receiving tax breaks locally in Louisiana.
Samuel Goldwyn Film’s role will be organizing on the ground marketing campaigns for WWE wrestlers to interact with movie-goers on a local level to attract more potential customers to the theaters.
