Cliff’s Predictions: Royal Rumble

* Royal Rumble match: This really all depends upon whether or not you think WWE has been trying to swerve its audience for the past few weeks. If you’ve been paying attention, it appears that there only really three or four viable candidates to win the Rumble at the most. Those men would be Triple H, Shawn Michaels, John Cena, and Batista. Everyone else is just kind of there. Is it possible that the winner won’t be one of those four mega stars? I think it’s possible, but unlikely. This is a company that believes in established star power, and I don’t think they’re ready to give a main event match to the likes of Ted DiBiase or Kofi Kingston. Heck, even Chris Jericho and CM Punk seem like relative long shots at this point. For me, it comes down to DX. Honestly, I’d be more surprised if Hunter and Shawn aren’t the final two in the match. Since I think Shawn will get involved in the Bret/Vince saga somehow, I am leaning towards Triple H winning. Again. Triple H wins.

* World Heavyweight Championship (Undertaker vs Mysterio): Does Undertaker need the title? No. Does Rey Mysterio need it? Again, no, not really. Do I think that Rey winning the title actually leads to more potential storylines? Absolutely. I’d sincerely love to see Rey in the main event scene again, and a short run with the title leading to Mania would be pretty cool. For me, Rey has a lot more potential opponents who match up well with him. All that aside, I don’t see how Taker loses this one. He’ll win, and he’ll win cleanly. Taker wins.

* WWE Championship (Sheamus vs Orton): I am torn on this one. It is a scenario that can go either way for me. It seems WWE is ready for Sheamus to be a big star, but again, this is WrestleMania season, and established stars rule the day. Orton qualifies as a star. Personally, I’d love to see Orton lose, and somehow enter the Rumble. I think that storyline would go over really well. I can’t shake the feeling that he’s going to win the title, though. I think Orton will win, but Sheamus might DQ himself to keep the title. Orton wins; Sheamus retains.

* ECW Championship (Christian vs Big Zeke): Poor Christian. He’s talented, but I can’t see him carrying Big Zeke to a watchable match. I hope I’m wrong. I think Christian holds onto the title here. It is my hope that the ECW title will be defended at Mania for once, and I think people would rather see Christian defend against someone rather than Jackson. Christian wins.

* Women’s Championship (Mickie vs Michelle): The women’s division finally has a story worth following. It’s almost a shame that the epic segment occurred last week instead of right before the event. The fans are all behind Mickie because of the body image angle, and I think it’s great. It’s better to discuss things like this than hide them. WWE has addressed this in a way that shows girls it’s okay to be themselves, and to not be ashamed of how they look. That’s borderline admirable. James wins.

It’s the Rumble. The buildup hasn’t been spectacular, but if you’re not at least a little bit excited, you’re not really a wrestling fan.
