WWE Smackdown taping
Sheffield, England
Report by Andrew Murray and Bruce Hastings & ProWrestling.net
CM Punk opened the show on the mic and received massive heat. R-Truth came out to a massive pop.
1.CM Punk defeated R-Truth. Punk went for the GTS. Truth countered with a roll up attempt, which Punk reversed and then grabbed the ropes while scoring the pin.
In a promo to hype the dark match main event, CM Punk said he was going to put Undertaker in a casket tonight after Chris Jerico has finished with him.
Mickie James promo. Plus buildup to the first ever Jerico vs. Undertaker match.
2. Natalya beat Mickie James. Natalya won with the Sharpshooter after a distraction by Michelle McCool and Layla.
Drew McIntyre in-ring promo
3. Drew McIntyre fought Finlay to an apparent no-contest. McIntyre chants started (I am Scottish and saw Drew wrestle a lot over here In the past). There was a nice chant throughout the match. However, it was a very, very slow match. It was an apparent no contest, as the ref couldn’t separate them. Drew hit Finlay with The shillelaigh.
Reshoot!!!!! The whole brawl was done again. There was yet another Reshoot!!!!!. It had the same ending with the Shillelagh this time. Finlay helped off by refs.
The Hulk Hogan DVD was advertised.
A contract signing between Batista and Rey Mysterio for Survivor Series took place. Big Pops for both men. Batista got Rey to sign another contract saying Batista will not be held responsible for his actions. Rey signed it, pushed Batiista over, and walked off.
4. John Morrison fought Dolph Ziggler to a double countout in an Intercontinental Title match. Both wrestlers fell outside off the top rope and it looked painful.
5. Beth Phoenix defeated Lisa Taylor. Taylor was a British enhancement talent. Beth won in a two-minute squash.
The main event for next week’s show will be Morrison vs. Ziggler in a best of three falls match for the Intercontinental Title.
6. Undertaker defeated Chris Jericho via submission to retain the World Hvt. Championship. First time ever! Great match. Jericho had the upper hand for most of the match. He went for the Tombstone, but Taker countered into tombstone attempt. That turned into a Walls of Jericho, but Taker countered that with the Hell’s Gate submission hold. Jericho tapped pretty quickly.
After the match, Big Show came down for a Jerishow beat down on Taker. Kane came out and made the save to set up a possible tag match for next week. End smackdown. Good match and big pops for anything Taker did.
