England’s View: Hell in a Cell PPV; Good or Bad?

WWE, as of late, has been putting gimmicks on PPV’s in order to try and obtain a better buy rate. For example- Breaking Point was submission themed, Night of Champions is where every title is on the line, and now on October 4 we get a Hell in a Cell themed PPV.

I am a big fan of Hell in a Cell matches and WWE usually does a pretty good job of build up going into them. However, a Hell in a Cell match has always been percieved as a rare match because of the risk it brings and the amount of money WWE puts into one. We are used to only having one Hell in a Cell match at a random PPV every year or so.

Now, we have 2 Hell in a Cell matches in one night, and probably are heading for 3. It is a very nice gimmick but it also takes away from the prestige and intensity of the match. Usually a Hell in a Cell match tops off a long and wide fued, and this time it’s just SummerSlam rematches. WWE does have another 2 weeks of RAW and SmackDown to better hype the event, but either way you go it’s still not as exciting as our old Hell in a Cell matches.

The advertised matches aren’t bad, and I’m actually looking forward to seeing Orton vs. Cena because of their match from Breaking Point. I really hope WWE goes TV-14 with this one, because we get much better match quality under that rating, Cena is pretty intensifying on his promos, and Orton has something to accomplish and his character is someone who doesn’t give up until he accomplishes what he set out to do.

DX vs Legacy isn’t exactly the best way to go at this point, considering this feud has just been going on about a month and a half come PPV time. However, WWE has a lot of potential here with this match. Over the past year, Cody and Ted have been brought up to main event status through the Legacy program. Both of them have improved in the ring greatly. Should they get a win at Hell in a Cell, it would really secure their main event status. RAW needs some new talent as DX is getting older and may not be around much longer.

So, the PPV itself as of now is neither good nor bad, but hopefully the Hell in a Cell matches are given quite a bit of time and have a lot of action. We’ll all find out together come October 4.
