Has TV-PG taken momentum away from the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view?
While not solely responsible, I’d say that it has taken some of the mustard behind it. We’re pretty much guaranteed no blood, so what then is the point of the structure? Sure, it looks painful, but we lose the classic cheese grater maneuver. I guess that’s not the end of the world, it always looked like one of the “faker” moves out there.
Seriously, though, what will WWE do to build interest? I assume if you can’t make ‘em bleed, you let them go on top of the cell like we saw last night. Only, therein lies the problem we saw it last night. Who cares if they do it again six days later? Not only that, but I would doubt there’s a Foley in their midst. Who’d take a sick bump from up there? Punk’s the closest candidate, and even then, I don’t see it happening.
Then there’s the other problem: you can only do that trick once. There’s THREE Cell matches Sunday, not just one. It’s ridiculous. We’re guaranteed two ho-hum matches with one getting the chance to be special. The matchups aren’t even all that intriguing. Punk v Taker? Sorry, Taker fans, but Mean Mark looks like he’s about spent in terms of quality in-ring work. DX v Legacy? Anyone who thinks Legacy has a shot at winning is new around here. Orton v Cena? Maaaaybe, but I just don’t know if Cena can keep it compelling. We’ll get the horrified and frightened Orton expressions, but can Cena keep us in the moment? We’ll have to see.
As Orton and Cena were the two to venture up on top on Raw, will they repeat the feat come Sunday? I’d have to think so, which means they’ll have to go on last. Punk-Taker has an outside shot, but can Taker climb the Cell these days? I doubt it. Cena and Orton are two younger guys, so I’d wager they’ll end the show on top of Satan’s Structure. I like how guessing if anyone will climb a fence is the only way to build intrigue for a show.
